Ralph Hughes, Owner of Financial WealthCare, has been named the 2017 Tigard Chamber CEO Shooting Star. This award is given to recognize a member’s significant achievement in the launch/implementation of a new program/organization or taking a program to the next level within the Tigard Chamber which has greatly benefited the chambers brand, its members and its visibility.
Ralph stepped up to chair the Tigard Chamber Gov’t Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) committee taking it over from the previous chair in 2013. Over the last four years, through Ralph’s efforts, the committee has met monthly providing an ever-increasing advocacy capability for the Tigard Chamber and its members.
Through consistent volunteer leadership of this committee Ralph has made sure that the Tigard Chamber continued to activate their voice on an increasing level legislatively, convening the committee on behalf of the chamber, recruiting committee members, driving discussions on key local and state legislative issues impacting business. In addition, Ralph helped the committee come up with recommendations to the board in terms of measure positions, and language for ballot measures, as well as updates to the Advocacy web page, city council candidate forum questions and more.
Committee activities have included drafting language or reviewing letters in opposition or support of key legislation or ballot measures, review and edits of 2016 and 2017 Tigard Chamber legislative agendas, drafting language for voter pamphlet ballot measure statements in 2014 and 2016 and holding City Council candidate forums in 2014 and 2016. Ralph authored draft questions for these forums for review and feedback from the GAPP Committee. In addition, he attended each of these events and helped facilitate the event whether as timekeeper for the moderator, or videoing content. Additionally, he attended most of the Washington County legislative receptions videoing business feedback on key legislation in the 2016 reception. Finally, he annually traveled to Salem with the Tigard Chamber CEO for Chamber Day at the State Capital to include meeting with our legislative representatives on key issues.
Without Ralph’s consistent convening of the GAPP committee and helping the CEO shepherd the chamber through local and state legislative issues impacting business, the Tigard Chamber would not have the level of advocacy activity it does today. A chamber cannot meet the needs of its membership with only staff. Volunteers in critical positions play key vital roles and Ralph has performed that role long and well for the Tigard Chamber. Thank you Ralph!
This award recognizes Ralph for sustaining and improving the Tigard Chamber GAPP Committee and its key deliverables and the impact it has had on the Tigard Chamber brand, its members and its exposure within the business community. We look forward to the continued contributions of the GAPP committee and want to thank Ralph for his leadership of this all volunteer group.
